The purpose of the course is to teach students the fundamental building blocks and operating principles of digital systems, understand the working principles, uses, and design techniques of combinational and sequential circuits, registers and memories, and programmable logic devices. It aims to apply the building blocks of digital systems to system design and develop computer-aided design skills. It familiarizes students with FPGA circuit design software. It aims to understand the use of hardware description languages in digital systems. Through laboratory experiments and term projects, students gain firsthand experience in the topics of digital systems. The content of the course includes number systems, arithmetic operations, logic gates, Karnaugh maps, combinational circuit design, flip-flops, sequential circuit design, registers, and counters.
